Dolphins improve offensive line, sign 5-year contract with Terron Armstead

Miami Dolphins full-back Tua Tagovailoa will be pleased to hear that the team has brought in attacking player Terron Armstead.

In recent years, the Miami Dolphins have boasted one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Last season, the Dolphins’ attack line surrendered to a total of 235 pressures, the most in the league, per Pro Football Focus. That certainly didn’t help quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has dealt fairly with injuries during his young NFL career.

But on Tuesday, Tagovailoa received some good news.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Dolphin signed the former New Orleans Saints, as opposed to Terron Armstead, to a five-year, $75 million deal, including incentives.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that the deal could amount to $87.5 million with the aforementioned incentives and $43.37 million of the guaranteed deal.

Armstead has dedicated his entire career to the Saints, who selected him in the third round of the Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He spent most of his time defending future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees’ shield.

In his nine-year career, Armstead has won the Pro Bowl three times.

If there’s one worrying problem for Armstead, it’s that he’s prone to injury. Last season, Armstead missed nine games due to elbow and knee injuries.

If Armstead remains healthy for much or all of the 2022 season, it will be a major upgrade to Miami’s offensive line under new head coach Mike McDaniel, the former San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator. Not only that, but giving Tua Tagovailoa time in his pocket, something he hasn’t had during his first two seasons in the NFL, will only help him become the franchise quarterback the organization believes he can become.
