The Los Angeles Dodgers are laying out a backup plan if they can’t trade for Juan Soto with Cubs All-Star Ian Happ in mind.

Juan Soto is the largest fish on the market, trading closes on Tuesday. The Dodgers are reportedly after himbut also the Padres and Cardinals.

Only one team can snag him from Nationals, so second options must be considered.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York PostLos Angeles has “looked at Ian Happ, although as with the Padres, that seems like a backup plan for Soto.”

Happ was an All-Star as a left fielder for the first time this season. He’s batted .279/.360/.436 with a .796 OPS while hitting nine home runs, driving in 46 runs and stealing six bases. His defense was stable while his offense was on the rise.

The left fielder has been the subject of numerous trade rumors, with the Cubs once again coming into the deadline as sellers.

Soto looks like a superstar, but the cost and difficulty of getting him is also off the charts. If the Nationals aren’t willing to sell, or a team like the Padres or Cardinals makes a better offer, the Dodgers could do a lot worse than add Happ.

That doesn’t mean Happ is the Aim if LA can’t add Soto to their stacked lineup. The Dodgers appear to be Rotate multiple plates at multiple positions as they try to ramp up their World Series pursuit.

It should be a busy Tuesday for the boys in blue.
