Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Delhi Capitals by 16 runs on Saturday 16 April at Wankhede Stadium.

DC had won the toss and chose to roll first. RCB looked frail as the top batsmen faltered. But Glenn Maxwell brought the innings back by hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes and hitting 55 balls from 34. But after his release, RCB were 92/5.

This season, RCB’s middle ranks have strengthened with the presence of Dinesh Karthik. Karthik did an impressive job as a finisher; Impressing everyone with his 5 fours and 5 sixes, he had an unbeaten 66 from 34 carries, a much-needed one. But he was also assisted by Shahbaz Ahmed, who didn’t lose his wicket to the end, playing a shot of 32 from 21 with 3 fours and 1 six.

DC’s David Warner started the innings with a good 66-of-38 with 4 fours and 5 sixes before losing his wicket to Wanindu Hasaranga for an LBW. DC skipper Rishabh Pant smashed 34 of 17 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes but gave Virat Kohli a catch. In the end, DC didn’t manage to add 16 runs.

“I have a bigger purpose” – RCB’s Dinesh Karthik

“From a top-order perspective, I think it’s important that we contribute runs. We don’t have top order, but the other guys do. Batting is difficult up front but the way Maxi put pressure on her was crucial. But to get to 190 you needed special innings and credit goes to both boys Shahbaz and DK,” said RCB skipper Faf du Plessis at the post-game presentation.

“The way DK is playing at the moment may sound like a broken record to me, but he’s playing the best he’s ever had. Of course happy to have him by our side. He is so clear, calm and collected.”

Meanwhile, Player of the Match Dinesh Karthik has admitted he’s working towards a bigger goal.
“I have to admit that I have a bigger goal. I’ve worked really hard. I tried to do everything to be part of the Indian team.”

RCB sits 3rd in the points table with eight points in six games while DC fell to 8th with their 3rd loss in five games.
