BOSTON (CBS) – A beer designed to give back. “So refreshing, so hazy. It was exciting,” said Lora Estey, co-owner of Distraction Brewing Company.
But ‘Tommy’s Distractions’ isn’t just about taste. Distracting Brewing Company has launched a new year-long campaign where it will team up with local artists to create a charity beer.
Roslindale Brewery approached Boston artist Erica Hagler, who goes by the stage name Blind Fox, to design the initiative’s first beer can. In return, Psychoanalysis asked her to choose an organization to receive 100% of the proceeds.
“Last year I was invited to paint a mural for Tommy’s Place. And that’s the inn for kids with cancer in the Cape. And it’s a free place for families to go on vacation. I just thought it would be a perfect connection between the two because the piece that I finished at Tommy’s Place would look perfect on a can,” Hagler said.
“I am really excited to be able to give back to such organizations. Not only does it bring them money, it gives them awareness, so a lot of people now know about Tommy’s Place,” Lora said.
The campaign was launched on January 21, and Psychoanalysis has worked hard to produce 20 cases of charity beer, which has raised thousands of dollars for Tommy’s Place.
“We came across two sets of beer that were sold. And we haven’t even boxed it yet, a second set and we’re planning on some more. So people seem to really like this beer,” said Mike Estey, co-owner of Distraction Brewing Company.
Ultimately, they hope to raise more than $10,000 for the organization.
“Distracting Brewery is getting a nice can, Tommy’s Place is getting known and the artist is getting exposure,” says Hagler.
