Seems like UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has heard enough of critics of his rematch against the previous bantamweight champion peter jan. Sterling shut out his doubters UFC273 as he fought Yan in a rematch in a unification bout to settle the essence of the controversy of the first fight on his deathbed. In fairness, Sterling made a split decision on Yan and rightfully made him the undisputed champion of his division. But many also thought that the fight is a potential robbery and Yan is the one who won the rematch.
These people include retired MMA referees The “great” John McCarthy and former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh Thomson. Sterling therefore singled out and blasted McCarthy for his criticism of the judges’ decision in Sterling’s favor at UFC 273. Since then, McCarthy has responded as well, but Sterling was quick enough to make a comeback.
Aljamain Sterling tells “Mr Perfect” John McCarthy to look in the mirror
In a tweet he did in response to Sterling’s criticism of Ariel Helwani, THE MMA HOUR’s first-ever MMA official, McCarthy wrote “Alright @funkmasterMMA I see that what i say worries you a lot. The fact that I don’t agree with a single round shouldn’t affect or affect your life in any way. I said You fought a great fight and you made it, congratulations. Attribution…really, champions are above it.“
Sterling, in turn, began his tweet with a hand-on-forehead emoji and said “Do you think I care if someone disagrees with me? you and josh [Thomson] are CONSTANTLY disrespectful to us fighters. You’re both annoying me. Especially Josh as a former top athlete Do you wanna try to take the main road now? Please look in the mirror Mister Perfect.“
What do you think of this back-and-forth between Sterling and McCarthy? Do you think Sterling should have ignored the clamor surrounding his win over Yan, or is it a must to also silence those who doubted his rematch? What do you think is next for Sterling? Sterling is interested in a fight against the former two-time UFC bantamweight champion TJ DillashawHowever, he is also open to fighting the martial arts legend Heinrich Cejudo Once he completes his 6 month drug testing process with USADA as Cejudo is officially out of retirement to fight again.
