DISCLOSURE: SCOTUS provides an update on Justice Thomas

Note: This article may contain comments that reflect the opinions of the author.

It was recently announced that conservative-style Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, had been hospitalized. The Economist’s Steven Mazie, reporting on the news in a tweet, shared the Supreme Court’s announcement and said:

“Justice Clarence Thomas was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC, on Friday night after experiencing flu-like symptoms. He has undergone examinations, has been diagnosed with an infection and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics,” the statement continued. “His symptoms are in remission, he is resting comfortably and he is expected to be discharged in a day or two.”

The statement itself, which describes what’s going on with Justice Thomas’s condition, says:

Justice Clarence Thomas was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC, on Friday night after experiencing flu-like symptoms. He has undergone tests, has been diagnosed with an infection, and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics. His symptoms are in remission, he is resting comfortably and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a day or two.. ”

Since that March 20 announcement, however, there has been little news about Justice Thomas’s condition, other than that leftists are cheering on his poor health. So, with very little other information available, the US still doesn’t know if it was originally predicted that Thomas would only be in the hospital for a day or two.

Perhaps because of that lack of information, the Supreme Court just issued an update, though it declined to confirm or deny whether Justice Thomas has been discharged. As AP reports:

The Supreme Court declined to say on Wednesday whether 73-year-old Justice Clarence Thomas was still in hospital, though he was expected to be released Tuesday night.

Still, it looks like Thomas is at least well enough to keep up with the Supreme Court’s volume of cases, as the AP reports that while he wasn’t attending Wednesday’s hearing, he was reviewing the table. points and summary:

The court heard arguments Wednesday morning and Chief Justice John Roberts, as he has said for the past two days, that while Thomas is not present, he will participate in the case by reviewing the transcript and summarizing the case. of arguments. Roberts said that Thomas “couldn’t be present today” without explanation.

In addition to being a good man who needs to be prayed for, Thomas’s health is important to the court’s current style.

Right now, sitting above the Court’s 6-3 conservative majority. In it, he joins Chief Justice Roberts alongside Judges Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Samuel Alito. However, he is one of the most conservative referees on the bench, with Alito probably second. The others are somewhat conservative, but generally a bit better than Thomas and Alito.

So if he has to leave court for a long time because of the flu or doesn’t recover, the resulting 5-4 change could mean more than the numbers suggest, as conservatives will lose one of his most loyal members.
