Diamonds Netball Star Gretel Bueta Shares Heartwarming Pregnancy News: ‘We Can’t Wait’

Australian netball superstar Gretel Bueta has announced that she is expecting her second child.

The Diamonds player, 29, shared the exciting news with fans via Instagram on Saturday.

“We can’t wait for Bobby’s little brother to join us this year,” Bueta wrote.

The wonderful news comes just three months after she revealed she suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage.

The star scorer was a key tooth in Australia’s Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning squad in August but has not played a game since after announcing she would be retiring from the game in October.

Speculation about Beuta’s future raged when she was due to return to training with the Queensland Firebirds in December, but extended her leave of absence – the reason for which is now crystal clear.

Diamonds head coach Stacey Marinkovich praised their star player following the news.

“Gretel has shown incredible strength at such a challenging time and we are delighted that she and Niko are expecting a child this year,” Marinkovich said.

“Gretel remains an important part of the Diamonds family and we will continue to support her throughout her pregnancy.”

Buetel’s announcement sparked a wave of support and love from teammates, ex-teammates and hundreds of fans.

“Oh Gets, this is the best news ever!!! So happy for you guys,” wrote ex-Diamond Catherine Cox.

“Crying with happiness. So happy for your beautiful family. Congratulations,” wrote current teammate Paige Hadley.

“Yayyyy, congrats again Buetas,” wrote fellow Diamond Donnell Wallam.

Bueta’s pregnancy means she will be out of action for the Netball World Championship in July and will likely also miss the entire 2023 Super Netball season, which she was already planning after her miscarriage.

“Going through a miscarriage isn’t pretty at all, but we’re just so grateful that we fell pretty quickly,” Bueta told News Corp.

“It never gets easy when you go to the scans, you have a little bit of jittery energy, and my heart goes out to women who are having fertility issues because it’s awful.

“But the support I felt during that time was huge. You’re just grateful and appreciative of every day that a baby grows, and I’m hugging Bobby a little harder as I do.

“It was amazing getting through the first trimester and we’re so happy that Bobby has a little pal.”
