Devin Haney will go to Australia to fight George Kambosos says Eddie Hearn Boxing News 24
Via Jack Tiernan: Eddie Hearn says Devin Haney is ready and ready to head to Australia to take on undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. next.
This seems to be a strategic move towards Hearn by talking about Haney’s willingness to join the fight in Australia right now, as the other promoters will actually be competing to set up a battle with the Kambosos.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn will announce as soon as possible that Haney, 23, is ready to take on the Kambosos in his native Australia.
If Hearn can get the Kambosos to commit to fighting against Haney immediately, he won’t test the water and discover that he can go up against another fighter better.
Hearn Must Worry About Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia showed interest in fighting the Kambosos as those are supposed to bring more to the interest of fans than Haney, who isn’t as famous.
Haney lacks charisma and his fighting style is particularly dull. Some see him as a parody of Floyd Mayweather Jr when you take away his arm speed, chin, and charisma that he once had.
Hearn said 135-lb WBC champion Haney (26-0.15 KOs) isn’t afraid to head to Australia to take on the Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) in his backyard.
Haney will go to Australia for the battle of Kambosos
“I’ve never been to Australia, and I really want to go,” Eddie Hearn told Matchroom Boxing when he wanted to go to Kambosos’ hometown to fight Haney. I think there is absolutely no question that Devin Haney will go to Australia for that match.
“We have seen big fights. Australia is a great market at the moment. You going back to the Horn-Pacquiao fight is a huge opportunity for the country and maybe doing it again with the Kambosos against Haney.
“Devin is not afraid to come to Australia, even if it is Sydney, whether it’s the Gold Coast. Hearn said.
“He [Haney] just need to pass Saturday. This is another type of test. Jojo Diaz is a two-division world champion looking to become a third-place world champion.
“This is a great run for Haney after the Linares win. But George Kambosos, you must say, he went and beat the man [Teofimo], who hit the man? [Vasily Lomachenko].
“Sometimes, when you come to Australia to win the undisputed championship, you do it. Like I said, Australian boxing is on fire and George Kambosos is leading. There are many great warriors passing by.
Hearn said: “Like I said, Devin Haney will have no problem coming to Australia. “We can do it in Vegas, or we can do it in Australia, but let’s fight. First thing first, [Haney] Don’t miss Jojo Diaz.
It’s good that Haney is willing to go to Australia to play the Kambosos, but that doesn’t make him an ideal opponent. To be fair, Haney is the light division version of Demetrius Andrade.
Like Andrade, Haney has talent, but he’s not famous. He is a belt holder who was awarded his WBC title outside the ring, and some call Haney an ’email champion’ because he was elevated to the WBC championship off the ring. .
If Kambosos wants to make as much money as possible, Tank Davis or Ryan Garcia might be his way to go rather than Haney.
Devin has to beat Jojo Diaz on Saturday
“It’s not going to be easy with what happened last week because it’s been a huge shock to the game,” Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing said of George Kambosos Jr’s upset win over Teofimo Lopez.
“This [Haney vs. Jojo Diaz Jr.] is a much closer paper fight than the Kambosos against Lopez. I would say up to 140 [for Teofimo] because he was obviously underweight.
“Everybody stretches at weights. Devin Haney lost weight. These young men won’t stay in their weight classes for long. That’s why you have to fight while you’re here.
“He [Teofimo] said he wanted to defend his championship which he won [against Vasily Lomachenko]. He tried to do that. Instead of looking at why he doesn’t protect them or the weight issue, look at the quality and heart that George Kambosos shows.
“It was great to watch. He has become a huge star of Australian boxing and world boxing. Teofimo will be back; he’s a great fighter,” Hearn said.
“People started questioning his background. ‘Did he get lucky against Commey? Is Lomachenko injured? ‘ This is an excellent fighter. Don’t take anything from either of them and give them credit.
“Now, George Kambosos, even though Devin Haney is our man on paper, George Kambosos runs the lightweight division, and he’s the man we have to go after.
“At 140, once those belts evaporate, I think Teofimo Lopez is going to be a second-weight world champion,” Hearn said.
There was a perfect chance for Haney to lose to Jojo Diaz on Saturday night in their title match on DAZN at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
