Epic Games has officially unveiled the Dragon Ball crossover event, which begins in Fourteen days today, August 16th – and it’s a big one. There’s more here than even yesterday’s fairly extensive leak suggested.
With a short trailer, a gameplay video (which was the basis of yesterday’s leak) and a detailed blog post, Epic confirmed that Son Goku, Vegeta, Bulma and Beerus have arrived as skins in the game. They bring with them a variety of activities, both inside and outside Fourteen daysBattle Royale mode from .
The four characters are available as skins in the item shop, all drawn in a sharp cel-shaded style. Goku and Vegeta both have three alternate styles and built-in charging emotes. (Universal versions of her charge-up emotes are also sold separately.) Bulma comes with an alternate style of lab coat.
A new Power Unleashed! has been added to the game, with quests and rewards available to all players through August 30th. Completing quests increases players’ power levels and awards them Dragon Balls, as well as rewards such as back jewelry, emotes, sprays, and Battle Pass levels. Completing all quests will grant you the Shenron Glider, based on the Dragon Ball lore’s wishing dragon.
In Battle Royale mode, bounty boards have been replaced with versus boards across the island for the duration of the Dragon Ball event. When two players interact with these boards, they are revealed on each other’s cards and have five minutes to find each other, defeat their opponent, and claim victory.
Additionally, new Dragon Ball items will fall from the sky onto the map in increasing numbers as the storm ends. The famous Kamehameha lets you unleash Goku’s energy beam on your enemies, while the Nimbus Cloud lets you fly around the island. Bulma can be found in the Kame house on a very small island off the mainland, where you can chat with her and trade bars for very powerful items.
Tournament of Power, a duo tournament, takes place in a three-hour window on August 18th. This is the only competitive playlist where players can use the Kamehameha and Nimbus Cloud items.
Some more relaxed Dragon Ball activities will be added Fourteen days also during the event. A cruise ship will host a Dragon Ball Super Episode Festival where players can see a selection of six episodes from the Dragon Ball great Anime series. And starting August 19th, Dragon Ball Adventure Island will appear in-game. It’s a Dragon Ball theme park of sorts, with iconic locations and activities, as well as a PvP battle arena.
Both the Episode Festival and Adventure Island will remain available until September 17th.
That’s a lot of Dragon Ball stuff to contend with over the next few weeks. Curiously, there doesn’t appear to be any explicit connection to the worldwide theatrical release in the event or in the selection of characters Dragon Ball Super: Superhero movie next weekend. But that’s probably no coincidence.
