For all their portrayals of Conservative arsonist Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia congressman who is one of former President Trump’s staunchest defenders in the House of Representatives, they are clearly quite concerned about her.
Why is this obvious? Because they keep trying to stop them. First… you she undressed of her committee duties and tried to prevent her from influencing the House. Now they are attacking her ability to run for office and trying to make it impossible for her to be re-elected.
USA Today, Description of Legal Challenge, reports that:
A group of Georgia voters is trying to block the re-election election of US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, arguing that she helped facilitate the Capitol riot.
A lawsuit filed Thursday with the Georgia Secretary of State alleges Greene is ineligible under the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution because allegedly “before, on and after January 6, 2021 Greene volunteered and volunteered has launched an insurrection to impede the peaceful transfer of presidential power, preventing her from serving as a congressman.”
They are citing the 14th Amendment as a plea in an attempt to keep her out of office because Section Three of the Amendment, which was passed after the end of the Civil War, provides that:
No person may be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or an elector to the President or Vice President, or hold any civil or military office in the United States or in any other state who has previously taken an oath, as a Member of Congress, or as an official of the United States or as Member of a state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to uphold the United States Constitution, to have participated in, or to give aid or comfort to, an insurrection or rebellion against, or against, the likes of the United States. But Congress can remove such an obstruction by a two-thirds majority in each House.
Of course, in citing this amendment, they are citing the court to state that MTG was “embroiled in a riot” in support of Trump on Jan. 6, when a bunch of FBI agents and QAnon maniacs were wandering the Capitol.
The argument is unlikely to succeed, as a like-minded group of leftists tried it in North Carolina to prevent hot-headed Congresswoman Madison Cawthorne from running again, crushing the court system there. the judge found in this case that acc WRAL:
Superior Circuit Justice Richard Myers said he could not allow the challenge, filed by attorneys to label the first-term Republican as an insurgent who should be legally barred from voting, to go ahead. The courts, Myers said, must protect the soapbox, the ballot box and the jury box.
So unless a Georgia judge takes a radically different stance, the leftist attempt to block MTG from running again is unlikely to work. If they want them out, they can win at the ballot box.
