Is Las Vegas Raiders winger Derek Carr a sneaky contender for next year’s NFL MVP?
There are 10 quarterbacks ahead of him in the MVP odds rankings, and while I think the names above him are fair, it provides Carr with an interesting case.
WynnBET Currently, Carr’s odds of winning the MVP are +3000, tying him up with Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and Cooper Kupp. The rankings of these players are debatable, but Carr could be the best case scenario for this season’s MVP.
In the first seven games of last season, Carr played ball all the time. He averages more than 300 yards per game and has beaten the Raiders with a 5-2 record – and it was in the midst of a scandal with Jon Gruden that affected the team. Carr also lost one of the starters in Henry Ruggs III and Darren Waller missed five of the last six games.
The Raiders fell from their elite attack in the second half of the season. However, Carr still led the Raiders to the knockout stages and second place in the AFC West. He was simply looking for ways to win and put the Raiders in a position to succeed. If Carr can do the same this year, +3000 will definitely get shorter.
As a member of the AFC West, Carr has an inherent advantage. He has to face the Chiefs, which makes his way harder than most other quarterbacks in the league. If he can get past them, his name will be in the conversation with the MVP.
The Raiders have placed more on Carr’s title each of the past three seasons, with his effort increasing year on year. Las Vegas’ winning streak has also increased over the last three seasons. The Raiders are slowly building something up, and with Carr’s direction, they could be one of the underrated teams this season.
Carr was certain in his conversation with MVP last season. He can do the same this year with a scandal-free team, completely healthy Darren Waller and another year of growth.
