Democratic Benefit raises $2.5 million with Biden’s participation

A charity event in Los Angeles for the Democratic Party’s efforts, co-hosted by Jeffrey Katzenberg, raised nearly $2.5 million on Friday in the presence of President Joe Biden.

“The money raised today will help get people to the polls on Election Day in November,” Katzenberg said. “Just the idea of ​​Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell being in charge should be enough to get people voting.”

Biden was in Los Angeles this week for the Summit of the Americas, which ends Friday.

The event will take place at the home of Ellen Bronfman Hauptman and Andrew Hauptman. Andrew Hauptman is chairman of Andell Holdings and was one of Biden-Harris’ top national fundraisers.

Funds raised by the group of around 30 donors will go to the Democratic National Committee’s Democratic Grassroots Victory Fund, which funds state Democratic parties and their grassroots infrastructure.

“Ellen and I are proud to open our home in support of Democratic Party efforts across the country,” Hauptman said. “With the Senate and House of Representatives in play and so many other critical races up and down the vote this November, we must do what we can to support President Biden now.”

Events led by Hauptman and Katzenberg have raised more than $13 million in support of the Biden-Harris campaign and nearly $5 million for the Senate-majority PAC in the last election cycle.

Katzenberg is also a key fundraiser for mayoral candidate Karen Bass, who will be up against Rick Caruso after both rose in the primary earlier this week. He has also endorsed Robert Luna, a former Long Beach Police Commissioner running against Acting Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
