DeMar DeRozan is severely undervalued in the latest MVP Rate

I started this article with a simple question. Why do odds researchers continue to disrespect the Chicago Bulls?

Last week I wrote a similar article raises the same question regarding the Bulls odds to win the Eastern Conference. At the time, the Bulls were leading 21-10, second in the East and on a four-game winning streak. Even with all of that happening to them, the Bulls are fifth behind the Sixers on the odds table despite leading them by six games.

I bring this up just to put in context what is happening with NBA MVP odds right now. Specifically, regarding DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls.

Let’s take a look at the current NBA MVP odds as they stand at WynnBET Sportsbook:

DeRozan is fifth in the NBA in points scored, 11th in PER at 24.15, has consecutive game winners, and he remains 15th on the odds table. With odds +7000 (bet $100 to win $7,000) this is like an oversight by the odds providers. Not only is DeRozan in the top 5 in terms of goalscoring record, but he is also leading a team that is currently top of the table and has the fourth best record in the league.

One thing that might hold him back is the fact that his teammate, Zach Lavine, is also having a similarly impressive season with 26.3 PPG and the same number of assists and recoveries.

Even so, when you watch the Bulls play, it’s clear that DeRozan is the main catalyst in Chicago and a big reason they’re leading the Conference. Doesn’t take anything away from Lavine, but the stats don’t tell the whole story here.

Take, for example, DeRozan’s fourth-quarter scoring figures. DeRozan leads the NBA in points in Q4 with an average of 8.0 PPG and is shooting 53.8% from behind the arc. That’s the clutch game. DeRozan also raised 87.8% from charity in the fourth quarter.

While he may not be as “good” as Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant on paper, he is doing a lot for his team to help them win. And, considering the Bulls are leading both the Bucks and the Nets, DeRozan is doing better than his opponent. At +7000, he’s definitely worth a look. Especially if the Bulls continue to win and lead the East for a significant amount of time. DeMar DeRozan is severely undervalued in the latest MVP Rate
