Dead by Daylight Survivors icon statuses explained

When playing as a survivor in Dead by Daylight, you need to keep an eye on the status of yourself and your teammates. Survival is the only goal for this game and you will need each other to help not get hooked, repair generators and lead the killer on wild goose hunts. Here’s a look at the survivor status icons and what each means when they appear.

Bleeding out/Memento Mori

This icon indicates that the Survivor died by bleeding to death or was brutally killed by the Killer with a Memento Mori offering. You have not been sacrificed to the entity and cannot return to the match.

When playing Pyramid Head, indicates someone who has been put in the penitentiary cage.

When playing The Nemesis and getting hit by his Tentacle Strike or a Zombie, a blue line and light will appear around your status icon. You will cough a little and be weaker to the Nemesis’ attacks.

deep wound

Deep Wound is displayed as a gold bar under the player’s name. This is a timer that tells you how long you have to heal yourself before you enter the dying state.

When this status icon is over a player’s gamertag, the player has either left the game or has been disconnected from the game and cannot return.

In the dying state you lie on the ground and cannot raise yourself up. Dying is the status that allows the killer to pick you up to hook you. If the killer doesn’t pick you up, you can crawl away and slowly build your healing bar up to around 95%, but a teammate will have to finish it for you to get back on your feet. If you crawl away, you’ll leave a trail of blood for the killer to follow to you. Below the icon is a red bar showing the time remaining until you bleed out and die, which takes a total of four minutes.

The escape icon indicates that a survivor has escaped from the play area. This can be accomplished by either restarting all five generators and opening an escape gate, or unlocking the escape hatch and jumping through.

As you would expect, a Healthy status means you’re at your best. You won’t limp, and the killer will have to hit you twice (in most cases) to knock you down.

The Hooked status is applied to any Survivor who has been hooked to a Sacrificial Hook by the Killer. During this time, the hooked survivor is trapped on the hook until rescued by another survivor or escaping the hook. If they don’t do this by the end of the red bar, they will die and be sacrificed to the entity.

If the bar is over 50% full, the survivor can attempt to escape the hook, causing them to jump off the hook and be put in the injured state. However, this only has a 4% chance of success and will lower the bar significantly if they fail.

When the gauge is below 50%, the survivor can no longer attempt to flee themselves and must fight the entity to stay alive. If they don’t fight back, the entity will hit them and cause its bar to drop faster.

Survivors can be connected a total of three times. The first time they start with a full bar and can attempt to escape if they wish. If this survivor dismounts and is later placed on a second hook, he immediately enters the combat phase. If they are rescued again but are later hung on the third hook by the killer, they are immediately sacrificed to the entity.

If a Survivor is injured, they will limp and haphazardly moan in pain. However, they maintain their normal walking and running speeds. This happens once they get hit by a killer or get caught in a trap. If you are rescued from a hook, you will also be placed in injured status. In order to regain health, you must either heal yourself with a medkit, or other survivors can heal you, regardless of whether they have a medkit or not.

When playing against the twins, a small hand will appear next to anyone that Victor, the smaller twin, has fallen on.

torn open

When playing against The Trickster, these meters will fill up as they are hit by the Killer’s blades. When they fill up and turn red, you’re just a swipe away from going into Injured or Dying status.

When The Doctor is in a game he will try to drive you crazy with his skills. There are three levels referred to as different static waves around your status symbol. The higher the static, the more hallucinations and other Doctor effects you will experience.

If you’re playing against Ghostface, this gauge shows how much the killer has been chasing you. When it’s filled, they can send you to the state of dying in one hit.

The possession status can only be applied to a maximum of one survivor at a time, but is subject to change. It is referred to as the spider legs surrounding the status symbol. These are only applied when either a Survivor or the Killer has special perks that grant Obsession status and affect gameplay in various ways for both the Survivors and the Killer. The effect depends on the perk. If the spider legs move, it means the killer is chasing the obsession.

When a yellow dot appears behind an icon, a survivor has been infected by the plague. Any object they touch becomes infected, and eventually the survivor becomes injured and broken and vomits randomly unless they find a pool of devotion to purify themselves.

Reverse Bear Caught

A survivor in the dying state can be equipped with a Reverse Bear Trap by The Pig. The trap allows the survivor to search for the key in the puzzle boxes scattered around the map. Once a generator has been activated, the bear trap timer on the status icon will start counting down. If the timer runs out or the survivor attempts to flee while the countdown is active, they will be killed instantly. The only way to remove the trap is to find the key.

The Sacrificed icon indicates when a Survivor has been sacrificed to the creature on the hook. You are considered dead and cannot rejoin the game.

When playing against Freddy Krueger (The Nightmare) there are a few symbols that indicate whether you are asleep or awake. If there is a transparent clock, you have been woken up and have a cool down before falling asleep again. A yellow transparent clock means you’ve found an alarm and can’t fall asleep for 30 seconds.

If you play against Ghost Face, the killer can track you and place a red circle around your status icon. When the Killer fills this gauge on a Survivor, they can transform them from healthy to dying in one hit.

If you’re playing Pyramid Head, this will show someone who ran through Torment Trail.

This trap indicates that a survivor is trapped in a bear trap set by The Trapper. During this time, the survivor can try to break free, or a teammate can help them before the killer arrives. Dead by Daylight Survivors icon statuses explained
