Dead and Company announce Farewell Tour for Summer 2023

After previously hedging whether the group could end, Dead and Company released a statement on social media on Friday announcing a farewell tour for the summer of 2023.

The wording of the announcement suggests that tour details are far from final, but that the group members wanted to come out before the news with an official statement that Dead and Company is ending.

“While we’ve put the finishing touches on venue bookings and understand that word travels fast, we wanted to be the first to let you know that Dead & Company will be touring next summer for our final tour.” read it in the statement.

“Stay tuned for a full schedule of dates for what is sure to be an exciting, celebratory and heartfelt final series of shows. With love and appreciation, Dead & Company.”

In early 2022 there were rumors that the band – a contemporary offshoot of the Grateful Dead co-fronted by John Mayer – would be breaking up after last summer’s tour. It turns out the speculation had been pushed back a year, with another extended chance of seeing the band still ahead.

Responding to an April 2022 Rolling Stone report that the group would stop touring after that year, the band hit the brakes on the news, saying at the time that “Dead & Company have made no official decision as to whether this is theirs last tour is.” Bob Weir even tweeted, “News for me.” Dead and Company announce Farewell Tour for Summer 2023
