Dayton stuns No. 4 Kansas with buzzer-beater Mustapha Amzil

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Mustapha AmzilA single basket of the game is a memorable match.
Amzil collided with a player jumping in the lane with the siren, and Dayton beat number 4 Kansas 74-73 on Friday.
Kansas’ David McCormack blocked Malachi Smithwill end with three seconds remaining. Amzil picked up the ball loosely, and his shot went over the edge and goal before going inside.
“It was great,” said Amzil, “I had to watch the ball bounce up and down. It’s hard to describe. It’s surreal. It was a wonderful feeling. ”
It was Amzil’s only shot from the field. He also succeeded 2-4 at the free throw line.
“Obviously Mustapha’s great presence knows the clock and gives us a chance,” said Dayton coach Anthony Grant.
Kansas coach Bill Self said after blocking McCormack that it was “good luck, bad luck.”‘
“The bottom line is, we didn’t do it when it was necessary,” Self said. ” [basketball] game.”
After Smith scored to shorten the lead to 73-72 on a catch, McCormack was called up for an offensive foul with a nine-second game time.
Ochai Agbaji scored four of his 21 points in the final game 6-0, giving Kansas a 73-70 advantage with just over a minute left.
Dayton (3-3) had five players score in double numbers. Daron Holmes II there are 16 points, and Toumani Camara and Elijah Weaver both are added to 14.
“It was a battle,” Grant said.
Christian Braun got 17 points for Kansas (4-1).
Weaver hit a pair of 3-pointers and Holmes ended the 16-1 surge with consecutive dunks to give Dayton a 53-50 lead in the second five minutes.
After Kansas went ahead in the first round, Holmes was left alone in a dribble that made the score 70-67 with four minutes left.
Kansas went on to run 17-8 to take a 44-29 lead late in the first half. Braun ended the game with a passing pass from Dajuan Harris Jr.
