The man charged with the murder of a New York mother allegedly claimed he believed the victim had infected him with HIV – and he stabbed her after she initially grabbed a knife.
However, the process continues David Bonola44, for alleged homicide Orsolya Gaal, 51, in the basement of her Queens home. New York City Police Department investigators previously said that the victim had an on-and-off affair with her killer over the course of two years.
Bonola, who worked as a handyman for the married woman, arrived at her home between 12:30 a.m. and 12:40 a.m. on April 16 after returning from a show at Lincoln Center, police officers said. While Gaal’s younger son was upstairs and her husband and older son were out of town, Bonola allegedly stabbed her more than 55 times, laid one of her son’s hockey duffel bags on her, and dragged away her body, which was soon found nearby Overlap. However, officers were wry over the “heated argument” between them prior to the stabbing.
The filing detailing Bonola’s account of that “heated argument” was unsealed in court on Tuesday The New York Post.
“She gave me HIV,” Bonola reportedly said in an April 20 interview with Detectives. “She lied to me, she used me. She told me she loves me. She couldn’t be with one person.”
Bonola reportedly claimed that she “cheated on me.”
“They had been dating and had previously broken up — but reunited in early April,” an NYPD official said after Bonola’s arrest. “Their relationship was considered over.”
In the defendant’s alleged version of events, he became angry after Gaal said she took a call from another man and “said she would see him”.
“I couldn’t accept it,” Bonola reportedly said.
In the filing, the defendant told detectives he knocked on her door that early morning and she let him in.
“She opened the door and asked me what I was doing there,” he reportedly said. “I told her I just wanted her to tell me the truth about why she gave me HIV. She said she didn’t have HIV.”
He allegedly claimed she said their affair was over, grabbed a knife and told him to leave her home “or else she would kill him”.
“I grabbed the knife and cut her throat off,” Bonola said. “She kept fighting and we fell. She moved and tried to grab me, so I stabbed her in the neck to stop her attacking me.”
As previously reported, Gaal’s husband expressed concern for his family’s continued safety. He was reportedly receiving threatening texts, including “Your whole family is next.”
Bonola is said to have admitted to having written a threatening text to her husband.
“In the past she told me that she had sent a man to jail, so I sent a message to her husband pretending to be that guy because I was scared,” Bonola said in the filing. “I took her laptop because she had sex tapes on the laptop. I threw her laptop into the Hudson River where I used to visit her often.”
