Dauntless and Fae Farm studio Phoenix Labs just bought out


fearless Developer Phoenix Labs makes another big move this week as it appears to be a secured investment that will allow its management to buy it out from its owners in Singapore-based Garena and go private. Garena, whose parent company Sea was an original investor in Canada’s Phoenix Labs, paid $150 million for the company in 2020, although we don’t know what Phoenix Labs management paid.
fearless itself is still doing well, of course, and has appealed to its 30 million person player base, but Phoenix Labs has several other games in the works. Last May, it said it was working on “nearly 10 projects, ranging from early research and development to full production,” as the studio “examined everything from sci-fi to fantasy, strategy to action, casual to core — and everything in between. ” One of those games is the delightful co-op farming simulation Fae farmwhich is apparently still on the way this spring.
