Daniel Craig’s Glass Onion to close the BFI London Film Festival

The 66th BFI London Film Festival closes with Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, starring Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick and Madelyn Cline with Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista.

After bowing in Toronto, the film will have its European premiere at the festival on October 16 before hitting theaters in the UK and subsequently launching on Netflix. Johnson, Craig, Norton, Monáe, Odom Jr., Hudson and Cline are expected to be in attendance. In the sequel to Johnson’s 2019 hit “Knives Out,” Craig takes on the role of detective Benoit Blanc, who travels to Greece to unravel the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects. Both films were produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman under their T-Street banner.

There will also be simultaneous screenings of the film taking place in cinemas across the UK

Johnson, said: “I’m delighted to be returning to the LFF with ‘Glass Onion’ and it’s an honor to be able to close the festival. Real crime fiction really belongs in London, so it feels a bit like coming home.”

Tricia Tuttle, Director of the BFI London Film Festival added: “Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’ was a huge hit when we hosted the European premiere at the festival in 2019, a wonderful tradition of British screen detectives. And here’s Rian Johnson striking gold again with the help of the year’s hottest ensemble cast. Like its predecessor, Glass Onion is equal parts entertaining and culturally competent, making some hilarious, knife-edge observations about the world we live in. The European premiere of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will bring the house down at the closing gala of the 66th BFI London Film Festival.”

As previously announced, the world premiere of Matilda the Musical will open the festival.

The festival takes place in partnership with American Express from October 5th to 16th. The full program will be announced on September 1st.
