A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his brother to death amid a history of violence.

Daniel Arthur Redman29 years old, murdered Brenden Ray RedmanAged 19, last month, but the suspect was in the hospital because deputies shot him as he took another person hostage, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The tragedy happened at a home on East Dawson Drive in Inverness, officials said. Authorities previously said it was at an East Dawson Drive address that Redman previously attacked the young man, their grandmother and their stepfather. The 29-year-old had just been released from prison less than a week before being accused of killing his brother.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a Law & Crime request for more information.

The delegates said they returned home on January 14, finding Brenden with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead after officials took him to the hospital.

“Witnesses told delegates that the suspect was the shooter who attempted to break into their home before he fled,” officials said.

Deputies tracked Redman to a private home about a quarter of a mile away.

Authorities said: “When contacted, the suspect was holding another victim, with obvious injuries, as a hostage. “Deputies gave verbal orders to the suspect to release the hostages, which he ultimately obeyed.”

The hostage that stepped forward was a local woman Sherry Potulsky.

“This kid was running around in my trailer,” she said of defendant Redman in one Citrus County Chronicles report. “I heard rummaging going on outside. I guess he was panicking, and then he came to my door and pushed it out. I was in the living room, panicking around. Then he went to the back of the room, and that’s when I said, ‘Who are you?’ Then he said, ‘Shh. “

In her account, Redman started looking out the window. He was sweating and panting. Potulsky got up from the bed, telling him he couldn’t be there.

“I know what’s going on,” she said.

Redman punched her in the face three times, put her on the floor, and put his hand on her face for a few minutes, Potulsky said.

“I’m praying to God I’m not dead,” she added. “When he covered my mouth with his hand, I thought he was trying to suffocate me or break my jaw.”

Delegates said they asked Redman to show them his hand after he released the hostage, but he refused to extend his hand and instead reached behind his back toward the waistband of his pants.

“After disobeying verbal orders, fearing for the safety of others, the suspect was shot once,” the delegate wrote.

Redman is now charged with first degree murder with a firearm; kidnap; theft of an occupied conveyor belt with batteries; shoot at, in, or at an occupied house; and possession of a gun by a felony.

As the final charge indicates, this is not the first time Redman has served time in prison. Online records show he left custody on January 9, just five days before he allegedly killed Brendan.

He was jailed for aggravated assault on a 65-year-old. According to the arrest affidavit, Redman filed a complaint on May 14, 2019, about someone opening fire in the back of the house. His grandfather, a 68-year-old amputee, told him they heard gunfire in the back of the house repeatedly and told him not to worry about it. But Redman “went ballistic” and attacked him, according to officials. He punched the old man, tripped him, and kicked him in the face, causing him to have swollen eyes, a lot of blood in his face, and a large wound in his left eye.

Authorities say the suspect shoved his brother Brendan, then a minor, and their grandmother against a wall when the two tried to call law enforcement. He took their cell phones.
