Cyclones, Sooners seek to recover from losses – The Athletic

It’s not often that we see a team led by Lincoln Riley struggling to move the ball. That’s an ongoing issue, though, in last week’s 27-14 loss to Baylor. The Sooners trailed 413-260, flipped the ball twice, led 2/9 on the third goal and took nine penalties. It almost felt like the perfect storm for the Sooners as their unbeaten season came to a halt in Waco. At this point, the College Football League is already indisputable, and OU still needs to win to make it into the Big 12 Championship Game.
Bettors love the Sooners’ chance to get back on track this week as they open as favorites 6.5 points against Iowa State. This game has a noon ET start time on Fox.
There’s no telling what version of the State of Iowa will show up on Saturday. One week, the Cyclones beat Oklahoma State or played Baylor closely. And next, they’re losing to West Virginia and Texas Tech. Last week, ISU lost to Lubbock 41-38 on a 62-yard field when time ran out. Matt Campbell’s team deserves a well-deserved bonus for finding a way back from a three-time encounter deficit. But the pre-season top 10 teams shouldn’t be in such positions in the first place. ISU needs to finish year 1-1 to have a chance at the top half of the Big 12.
