Cubs trade rumors taking toll on Willson Contreras

While Willson Contreras may play for the Chicago Cubs, he has spent the better part of the last two seasons on the trading block.
That kind of uncertainty over such a long period of time can break even the biggest contenders, and that seems to be the case with contraras.
While Contreras is still showing capable numbers on the season, there has been a decent dip of late. Manager David Ross reached out to the source directly, explaining that the trade rumors are finally taking their toll.
counterras’ fights do not affect its overall value. Chicago is demanding a royal ransom for its all-star backstop, something they’ve struggled to achieve until now. The matters working against Contreras are beyond his control – he is in the final year of his contract and is likely to give himself free rein post-season unless there is an unforeseen extension with the team trading for him .
Willson Contrera Rumors: Where Will Cubs Trade Him?
The Mets, Padres or Astros make the most sense for Contreras. All three are competitors and outside of the Cubs division, ensuring such a move doesn’t come back to bite them.
New York’s uncertainty about the position is well documented and the return of James McCann shouldn’t inspire too much confidence.
As popular as Martin Maldonado is in the Astros organization, he bats under the Mendoza line.
San Diego is chasing a big bat and could consider Contreras as a backup plan for Juan Soto. However, Chicago is certainly looking at the likes of Robert Hassell III as a potential player in the San Diego farm system.
Both Contreras and Ian Happ have said goodbye to Wrigley Field and are likely to trade through the Aug. 2 deadline, ending the endless circus that gave away a World Series contender’s spare parts.
May 2016 live on forever.
