Cubs, Reds uniforms are here and they are spectacular

If you build it, they will come. And by that I mean two failing professional baseball teams in NL Central.

The Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, August 11 in the now annual Field of Dreams Game.

The uniforms for the showcase were officially unveiled on Monday 8th August and they will set them back about a century. Everyone gets in the DeLorean.

Three Hall of Famers wore this Reds uniform, according to SportsLogos, including Edd Roush, Christy Mathewson and Jesse Haines. Cincinnati wore these threads from 1914 to 1920 and even won a World Series in them in 1919.

The Chicago Cubs wear navy blue caps inspired by what the club wore during the 1914 season – a white bear with a baseball bat under his arm. This logo was revived by the Cubs in 1927 and moved to the front of their jersey, placed in a red wishbone “C” where it remained for ten seasons through 1936. The Cubs wear the same 1927-36 cream jersey with the 1914 navy blue cap for the 2022 Field of Dreams game.

As for the current iterations of these teams, both went through a transition in the most recent trading deadline on August 3rd. Chicago held on to its top two players available Willson Contreras and Ian Happ. Cincinnati, meanwhile, dealt ace Luis Castillo to the Seattle Mariners and more.

While the teams don’t inspire much confidence, both have storied histories. And every professional baseball game in a cornfield is a must-watch on TV.
