Widespread receiver James Washington wants to reinvent himself with the Dallas Cowboys after things didn’t go according to plan for him while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Much touted as a freshman, new Dallas Cowboys James Washington reflected on what happened to him during his stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Texas winner and the native Biletnikoff from the State of Oklahoma often get lost in the Pittsburgh shuffles. Although the Steelers are a franchise where wide receivers often thrive, Washington has never hit the hype when it comes to replacing Martavis Bryant in the 2018 NFL Draft. He came to the Cowboys on a one-way deal with him. hoping to prove to everyone that he can play better.
Washington said in an interview with USA TODAY: “I feel like everything that happened in Pittsburgh, I didn’t really show my full self. “We had a crowded room at the receiver. But nothing against anyone else, I felt like there was a lot of meat left on the bones. I didn’t really fully develop myself and make the strides I wanted to.”
“I will make the most of this opportunity in Dallas. Do what I can so they get 110 percent of me and I can reach my full potential.”
Washington joined a receptive corps made up of a former soldier selected in the first round at CeeDee Lamb and a recently paid veteran at Michael Gallup, but a corps without Amari Cooper, who had been traded to Cleveland. Browns to be selected in the fifth round.
James Washington was thinking about what happened to him with the Steelers
All in all, it looks to be a combination of Pittsburgh having established #1 and #2 reception picks when he arrives, as well as Ben Roethlisberger’s notable decline as a laner. Washington may have won Biletnikoff while at Oklahoma State, but he couldn’t usurp Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster on the Steelers’ received depth rankings as a rookie.
Though Brown leaves and Smith-Schuster retreats, Roethlisberger is injured and it’s The Mason Rudolph Show with some Duck Hodges strewn there. While Washington plays his best ball with his college teammate shooting him with pig skin, it’s clear that Rudolph won’t be the obvious heir to Big Ben in Steel City. When Roethlisberger returned, everything changed.
The arrival of Chase Claypool and the arrival of Diontae Johnson caused Washington to lose the melee. He was never able to build a relationship with Roethlisberger like he had with Rudolph. Simply put, Washington can never be the widely accepted No. 3 pick at any point in the race against the Steelers. It’s good for him to get a fresh chance to start fresh with the Cowboys.
Failing as a receiver to Pittsburgh isn’t a good look, but Washington is looking to prove itself.
