Could Anthony Rizzo’s Chicago dinner hint at a Cubs reunion?

Chicago Cubs first-timer Anthony Rizzo was seen at dinner in the Windy City. Could that mean he’s interested in a reunion?

Rizzo regularly visits Chicago, despite the fact that he no longer plays for Cubs. The former Chicago first-timer has basically spent nine of these first ten seasons in Chicago, so he knows the town pretty well. Considering his means as a professional baseball player, it’s hard to blame him for visiting a place he calls home for so long.

Over the weekend, Rizzo was spotted with fellow Chicago-ans Chris Chelios, Ryan Dempster and Nico Hoerner at the Chicago Cut Steakhouse. All four took a photo, blowing up social media in the process.

Cubs: Does the Anthony Rizzo reunion make sense?

The Cubs are linked with Kris Bryant the most of their former stars, who have been successful with the free company this season.

Frank Schwindel is currently ranked as a first-team player for the Cubs, so Rizzo is sure to fill the void. But is he worth the asking price?

According to Spotrac, Rizzo’s market value is around $20 million per season, roughly the same claim as former Cubs teammate Kyle Schwarber. While the Cubs weren’t expected to be spenders heading into this season, they surprised many by signing Marcus Stroman to a three-year, $71 million deal and are currently in talks with Bryant. , as mentioned earlier.

While Jed Hoyer and Co will openly admit they are in the process of retooling types, next season’s free agency class is lacking much of the star power that the 2021-22 player pool has. So, what better time than to bring in some much-needed talent upgrades?

Rizzo was familiar with the Cub main office, and serves as a meaningful first facility. If his asking price drops after the lockdown, it wouldn’t be surprising if at least the Cubs made a phone call. But for now, his friendly visits to Chicago are little more than social media food.
