Conor McGregor will never be ‘one of us’ again

Anthony Smith thinks Conor McGregor will never be ‘one of us’ again

Conor McGregor is arguably the most famous MMA fighter of all time. He has money from all directions, he has luxury cars and big yachts but Anthony Smith knows there’s one thing that McGregor doesn’t have…inner vision.

“I don’t know what Conor thinks of me, but I don’t know why he targeted me twice,” Smith mentioned above SiriusXM’s Fight Nation. “But when I talk about it, I think I figured it out. Conor was a huge success. He made more money than he could spend. He has made wealth for generations. His ‘baby’ children will be fine for the things that Conor has accomplished. What Conor never got back, was that he would never be one of us again – and that drove him completely crazy. He was–he was one of us. ”

What Smith means is that McGregor has become so far removed from what fighters in the UFC deal with on a daily basis, he’s no longer enjoying it, and that’s something he’ll never be able to get back.

Conor McGregor says he knew his leg could be broken ahead of Dustin Poirier, feels the rivalry remains unresolved

“I find myself sitting at my desk wondering, like, Do you remember what it feels like to be in the gym and just be one of the guys? Because he alienated himself from everyone. I was a little closer to him. I do not know him. But I was around him and he was one of the men. Then he sold out and he started taking pictures of people and he sold his soul for all that money. That’s fine if that’s what you want to do.”

Smith has never really been a trash talker so when he does, people tend to know it’s coming from a place of truth rather than a place of war or hope for a headline.

Smith has received attention from McGregor due to his time on the UFC analysis desk.
