More than two years after publicly coming out as gay, Colton Underwood is updating fans on the flexibility of his sexuality.
Underwood, who was previously cast as The bachelor about the reality show’s 23rd season in 2018, came out during an interview with Robin Roberts in April 2021 Good morning America.
“I ran away from myself for a long time, I hated myself for a long time. “I’m gay,” Underwood said at the time. “I came to terms with it at the beginning of the year, and the next step in all of this was letting people know.”
His announcement initially sparked mixed reactions as it seemed to fit perfectly with the news that he would be documenting his journey on the Netflix reality show Coming Out Colton.
Since then, Underwood has found love with husband Jordan C. Brown, a Democratic Party political strategist.
But now Underwood reveals he only feels “75% gay.”
On Wednesday, the 31-year-old explained how he identifies with his ex Bachelor Beloved, Hannah Brown.
“But if I were to break it down into percentages, give or take, that’s pretty much where it is,” he added.
“That might be confusing for some people, but I think that’s where the male and female energy, the sliding scale and it changes – I think that’s the easiest way to explain my sexuality.”
While Underwood claimed he never slept with women during his season The bachelorhe continues to have an “appreciation” for the ladies.
“There is still an attraction, appreciation and emotional connection that I could have with women, but I don’t want to pursue that,” he noted.
While being with a woman isn’t completely out of the question, Underwood doesn’t think he could find a “life partner” in a heterosexual relationship.
“This is not my life partner,” he said. “My life partner is Jordan, a man, and that’s what I’ve always wanted, but I’ve never felt comfortable saying that and honestly I didn’t even know that was the case until I got into it and really found out.”
And while he may not have lived his truth when dating women, Underwood said he was truly in love with her.
“I feel like I’ve been in love multiple times and with different women, and I’ve taken things from those relationships and applied them to my relationship with my husband,” he shared. “I took parts of what I wanted from my relationships with women and just incorporated it into a relationship with a man.”
Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman and Bachelor Contestant Cassie Randolph are two of Underwood’s former exes. To say that his relationship with Randolph ended badly would be an understatement. After accusing him of stalking, she filed a restraining order. The order was ultimately dropped in November 2020.
Underwood met his husband shortly after he came out in 2021. A month after going public with their relationship, the lovebirds bought a house together. After getting engaged in 2022, they married in a lavish ceremony in May 2023.
