College football fan’s guide to Week 11 games

Week 11 of the college football season has arrived as an exciting series of games continues a season with intriguing storylines.

Four games with two opponents ranked this week: 19 Purdue at No. 4 Ohio State, No. 8 Oklahoma at No. 13 Baylor, No. 11 Texas A&M at No. 15 Ole Miss and No. 16 NC State is at No. 12 Forest of Awakening.

Week 11 preview: Games to watch

Georgia #1 in Tennessee | 3:30 pm | CBS

Tennessee took down an SEC East-rated team in Week 10 (Kentucky). During Week 11, the Volunteers have a chance to do it again, this time against the always-dominant Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee full-back Hendon Hooker will have to find a way to do what no one else has done: figure out how to succeed against a Georgia defense filled with so many big-name stars. Georgia won the SEC East, but this could be its last test before the SEC Championship game kicks off.

Players need to see: RB Zamir White (UGA), DT Jordan Davis (UGA), LB Nakobe Dean (UGA), QB Hendon Hooker (TENN), LB Jeremy Banks (TENN), DB Jaylen McCollough (TENN)

UNDEFEATED FOLLOWERS: Here are all the undefeated college football teams in 2021

19 Purdue at No. 4 Ohio | 3:30 pm | ABC

Can Purdue do it again? That’s what everyone is wondering when the team’s team heads to Columbus this weekend to face Ohio State, a week after the previous loss-No. 3 Michigan State (and after beating No. 2 Iowa earlier in the season). Purdue will face a Buckeyes team that has won seven games in a row. Much of Ohio State’s success has come from a strong, all-star offensive, but this game could have Buckeye’s defense stopping Purdue’s wide receiver David Bell. Bell averaged 228.5 yards and faced top 5 opponents.

Players need to see: QB Aidan O’Connell (PUR), WR David Bell (PUR), DE George Karlaftis (PUR), QB CJ Stroud (OSU), RB TreVeyon Henderson (OSU), WR Garrett Wilson (OSU), CB Sevyn Banks (OSU)

SPOILERMAKERS EMPLOYEE: Purdue upsets number 2 Iowa | Purdue turns the number 3 Michigan State

6 Michigan in Penn State | 12 midnight | ABC

While Michigan vs. Penn State has lost some of the fanfare from a few weeks ago, the Big Ten East game will potentially compete for another meeting. Michigan just lost a game and still has a chance to qualify for the playoffs if it wins. Penn State has been out of the race for the championship, but the win over the Wolverines might remind everyone that the Nittany Lions are still one of the better teams in the country. The battle to watch in this game will be Michigan’s powerful barrage of attacks against a solid Penn State defence.

Players need to see: QB Cade McNamara (MICH), RB Blake Corum (MICH), RB Hassan Haskins (MICH), DL Aidan Hutchinson (MICH), LB David Ojabo (MICH), QB Sean Clifford (PSU), WR Jahan Dotson (PSU), LB Ellis Brooks (PSU), S Jaquan Brisker (PSU)

8 Oklahoma at 13 Baylor | 12 midnight | FOX

The Caleb Williams hype train made its next stop in Waco when Oklahoma took over Baylor. Williams, the star freshman quarterback, has the Sooners live and warm in playoff chat; another ranked win would add an impetus to not only the team’s résumé but also his emerging Heisman campaign. Meanwhile, Baylor is still heading for a stop at the Big 12 championship. The win over the Bears puts Baylor in third place on the conference standings, knowing the top two teams have yet to play each other.

Players need to see: QB Caleb Williams (OU), RB Kennedy Brooks (OU), WR Marvin Mims (OU), LB Nik Bonitto (OU), QB Gerry Bohanon (BAY), RB Abram Smith (BAY), WR Tyquan Thornton (BAY), LB Dillon Doyle (BAY), S Jalen Pitre (BAY)

SCHEDULE: Full FBS TV schedule and time

State No. 16 NC in Forest No. 12 Wake Forest | 7:30 pm | ACC . Network

While last week’s loss leaves Wake Forest undefeated, it’s technically without a single loss in ACC play. The Demon Deacons still sit at the top of the ACC Atlantic division but right behind them is the NC State. Wolfpack have one loss in the ACC game, and a win over Wake Forest would put NC State in the driver’s seat for a stop at the ACC Championship. This ACC game could be the deciding factor which team represents the Atlantic region in Charlotte on December 4.

Players need to see: QB Devin Leary (NCST), LB Drake Thomas (NCST), S Tanner Ingle (NCST), QB Sam Hartman (WFU), WR AT Perry (WFU), DL Rondell Bothroyd (WFU)

The big question of Week 9

Which undefeated team will fall next?

Last week, two other FBS groups dropped out of undefeated rank, only four are left. NCAA.com’s Andy Wittry predicts that only two unbeaten teams will remain at the end of the month. He also predicted Oklahoma would lose a game. Could this be the week Oklahoma fell from undefeated?

NOVEMBER PROSPECTS: Georgia’s Pursuit of Perfection, Big Ten Battles, and More

Will the unranked teams continue their success?

Week 10 saw the season’s seven top-ranked teams beat ranked opponents. This has surpassed a season-high of six such wins in Week 9. Unranked teams are winning at a remarkable rate into the 2021 college football season. Stay tuned for those underrated in Week 11 to see if they can continue the unpredictability this season.
