College basketball ratings expected after Duke upset by Virginia in Cameron

Duke returns home from beating rival North Carolina and is immediately snubbed by Virginia to shake the college basketball rankings forward.

This past weekend, Blue Devils Duke made a huge statement. On the road in Chapel Hill against their biggest rival, UNC, the Mike Krzyzewski farewell tour seemed headed for big things as they blew up the Tar Heels. It then returned home on Monday for a game against a Virginia Cavaliers team down.

Duke, however, came out on Monday night and was pushed from the start. They took the lead after halftime but took the lead late. However, they need a stopover with two points to secure a home win. Instead, UVA’s Reece Beekman surged in from the left and hit a three-pointer to put the Cavaliers ahead.

Paolo Banchero helped the Blues one last time in a desperate attempt to win, but to no avail as Duke suffered his fourth loss of the season, this one at home in Cameron. Now, we have to see if they fall out of the top 10 of the college basketball rankings.

College basketball rankings: Predictions after Duke upset over Virginia

  1. Auburn tiger
  2. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  3. Purdue boil
  4. Arizona Wildcats
  5. Kentucky Forest Cat
  6. Houston cougar
  7. Kansas Jayhawks
  8. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  9. Baylor Bears
  10. Providence Brothers and Sisters
  11. Blue Devil Duke
  12. UCLA Bruins
  13. Illinois Fighting Illini
  14. Wisconsin Badgers
  15. Villanova Wildcats

If this is a typical year in the ACC, it really doesn’t matter much to lose to UVA in any capacity. But the Cavaliers have been fundamentally less impressive this year, which makes Duke’s loss at home in this way affect the standings a bit more.

I made the Blue Devils drop out of the top 10, although that’s not a guarantee. Admittedly it has to do with the fact that I believe Providence should be ranked higher than it currently is, so putting them in the top 10 is consistent with what I believe will happen.

Regardless, these types of losses happen to the best teams in the power conference game. So this isn’t something Coach K’s team has to sweat a lot. They will be fine.
