College Baseball Ranking: Top 25

With a chaotic and tense opening weekend behind us, college baseball season has kicked off. Here’s how that affects the top 25.

Well, if opening weekend is any indication of what’s to come for the rest of the season, there won’t be any lack of excitement for college baseball in 2022.

Based on the results we have so far, expect a lot of turmoil and chaos.

The two teams competing for the national championship last season both had bad weekends. That’s right, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the defending national champions, and Vanderbilt Commodores, the second-best team in 2021, both lost their opening series of the 2022 season.

However, they were not the only ones to suffer some significant losses. Arkansas was shocked in its first game, losing to Illinois State. Nebraska Cornhusker lost to Sam Houston State 3/4. Liberty has crossed Florida twice. Louisiana crashes UC Irvine.

It was a wild weekend and definitely one worth seeing.

Here’s how the college baseball team ranks after opening weekend.

NCAA Baseball Rankings: Teams Are Rising

Long Beach State Dirtbag

It wasn’t easy to get to Dudy Noble Field as an arch-enemy and win, let alone a mass victory over Mississippi State. Long Beach State was the first state to do so since 2015. The flat Dirtbag looked solid until the third game, when the Bulldogs definitely appeared as if they were alive.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

As is customary with anyone visiting Nashville, you’ll have plenty of fun if you even have a wired connection to cowboy culture. The Oklahoma State cowboys arrived at Hawkins Field and went away with two wins over Commodores in arguably the most entertaining series of the weekend.

Notable Others: Arizona, Liberty, Louisiana

NCAA Baseball Standings: Teams Going Down

Mississippi State Bulldog

It’s important not to read too much into the early season results, but it’s hard not to overlook what happened in Starkville. The Bulldogs were beaten very hard in the first two games of this series. Long Beach State looks to be a very good team and Mississippi State looks to be in a bad shape in the first two games. However, that certainly changed by the third game.

Vanderbilt Commodores

There’s no shame in losing an opening series against a team that could conceivably end in Omaha. The best players today are Vanderbilt and Commodores looks pretty good. They were just beaten by an Oklahoma State team that could make it to this year’s College World Series. Given what Commodores have lost from a season ago, this loss is understandable.

Notable Others: Texas Tech, Florida, Nebraska
