Colin Farrell Penguin Series Films in 2023, Wants to Be in Batman 2

Colin Farrell recently told Entertainment Tonight that he hopes to start filming his Penguin series for HBO Max in 2023. diversity confirmed in March that HBO Max has placed a direct order for a series that will be a spin-off of Matt Reeves’ film The Batman. Farrell made his debut as Oswald Copperpot/Penguin in the film. The actor told ET he hopes his Penguin future goes beyond the spinoff series and includes the sequel to The Batman.

“Oh my god, are you kidding?!” Farrell said rhetorically when asked about playing the penguin on the big screen again in the sequel to The Batman. “It’s so much fun, are you kidding? [with] me? I was around the block man. It was an easy sport, I mean… it was a joy.”

Farrell continued with the sequel, “You know, Matt is doing his best, hovering over the keyboard and just plotting the story because he’s just so meticulous. He’s so obsessed with what he’s doing, but he’s finished [HBO Max’s] penguin [series] also. I mean, he’s not going to direct, but he’s taking care of the whole structure of the scripts and who’s going to direct them. And that’s why it’s exciting.”

The actor’s new Apple TV+ sci-fi series Sugar begins production this month and will stretch into the fall, hence the delay in filming the Penguin series. Farrell is currently starring in Ron Howard’s rescue drama Thirteen Lives, which is in theaters now and will stream on Prime Video on August 5th.

“The Batman” opened in March to rave reviews, with Farrell’s prosthetic-laden supporting actor as Penguin garnering plaudits. The Warner Bros. release grossed $369 million in the US and $770 million worldwide. The studio confirmed in April that Reeves and star Robert Pattinson would be returning for a second film.

in the diversity is Reviewing The Batman, chief film critic Peter Debruge singled out Reeves for “doing something relatively unique here, at least by comic book film standards,” adding, “This grounded, often brutal, and nearly three-hour film noir register among the best in the genre, although – or rather, because – what makes the film great is its willingness to dismantle and question the very concept of superheroes.”

Speaking of Farrell’s Penguin series earlier this year, when the show was officially announced, the actor said: “The world that Matt Reeves created for ‘The Batman’ is a world that deserves a deeper look through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited to continue this exploration of Oz as he rises through the dark ranks to become the penguin. It will be good to bring him back to the streets of Gotham for some madness and some mayhem.”

The Batman is now streaming on HBO Max.
