Colin Cowherd’s Chiefs prediction disrespects Patrick Mahomes

Colin Cowherd shortens the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes this NFL season.

Even if Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City chiefs play in the toughest league in football, Colin Cowherd doesn’t give Andy Reid’s team the benefit of the doubt.

With NFL With training camps opening very soon, Cowherd revealed his early division winners and 14 playoff teams on Thursday’s show. While he picked all but the Las Vegas Raiders to make the playoffs from deep AFC West, his known affinity for all things Russell Wilson overwhelmed him as Cowherd picked the Denver Broncos to win the division and the Chiefs to finish second .

Here is the entire segment from The Herd with Colin Cowherd where he selected all 14 playoff teams.

Colin Cowherd disrespects Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes on division picks

While each of the four teams in the AFC West is capable of winning the division, Cowherd’s insult to the Chiefs is a bit odd.

“The Chiefs, I’m a little worried about Tyreek Hill. Sometimes the six game stretches too [Patrick] Mahomes falls in mechanically,” Cowherd continued The Herd with Colin Cowherd Thursday.

Though the Chiefs could retire somewhat, it won’t be because Tyreek Hill plays for the Miami Dolphins or because Mahomes has mechanical problems again midseason. If Kansas City falls short in the AFC West, it’s because all three of their rivals are playoff rosters with Pro-Bowl-level quarterbacks and a bevy of pass-rushing talent. Of course, the Chiefs will win the division again…

Cowherd could come to his senses when the time comes as he has yet to make three self-proclaimed changes to his preseason predictions. Even if you’re high at one of your three AFC West rivals, you can’t be serious about putting someone else top of the preseason at this point. The Chiefs deserve the benefit of the doubt. They’re the best-run franchise in the division, top to bottom.

Admittedly, the AFC will be a bloodbath. One could argue that the AFC West runners-up will be good enough to win up to three divisions in the league. However, the past is the best predictor of future success, and the Chiefs have been swimming in it lately. They have the best quarterback/head coach/general manager/ownership combination in the NFL going away.

Expect Reid to have a field day against his rivals’ three years of experience as head coach.
