Coldplay postpones shows as Chris Martin battles lung infection

Coldplay was forced to pause its eight-show run in Brazil because singer Chris Martin contracted a “severe lung infection”.

“It is with deep regret that we are forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to early 2023,” the band said on Twitter on Tuesday. “Due to severe pneumonia, Chris was given strict medical orders to rest for the next three weeks.”

The Latin American leg of Coldplay’s world tour was set to kick off with two shows on October 11th and 12th at the Estadio Nilton Santos-Engenhao in Rio de Janeiro before moving to the Allianz Parque stadium in São Paulo on October 15th and 10th turns 22. While no new dates have been confirmed yet, the band stated that rescheduled shows are “taking place in early 2023 and will be announced very soon.”

“We are working to set the new dates as soon as possible and will provide more information in the coming days,” the statement said. Ticket holders can also request refunds, which are available at the point of sale.

The band also expressed hope for Martin’s health, saying they were “optimistic” that he would “recover from the mandatory medical break.”

“To everyone in Brazil who has been looking forward to these concerts, we sincerely apologize for any disappointment and inconvenience and we are so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time as we need to prioritize Chris’ health,” the band continued away .
