Coast Guard Eagle tall ship, classrooms at sea, downtown Miami docks – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – The US Coast Guard tall ship Eagle has docked in South Florida.

The 295 ship, also known as the Barque Eagle, landed Thursday at Maurice A. Ferré Park in downtown Miami.

Free public tours are set to continue through Saturday.

“Eagle is definitely one of a kind, America’s tall ship. She is the only active military duty tall ship,” said USCG Lt. Peter Driscoll. “We sail around every summer with the cadets on board to help with formation and tradition, seamanship and character development.”

The Eagle has served as a classroom at sea for future Coast Guard officers since 1946.
