Amanda Nunes must be on cloud nine and in fairness she has every right to pretend she’s on top of the world today. Just like the greats would, Nunes recovered from the odds of the first fight against the former UFC bantamweight champion Julianna Pena dominating the latter for five rounds in the main event rematch UFC277, restoring her status as a UFC doubles champion. It’s safe to say that Nunes is close to being the undisputed greatest mixed martial artist of all time.
Nunes demonstrated dominance over Pena in every division of the MMA game, whether it was grappling or striking. Nunes ensured that Pena’s pressure style was paid heavily with her check hook throughout the fight, which knocked Pena down multiple times. In the end, when Nunes proved her doubters wrong, Pena was missing a huge chunk of her forehead thanks to vicious elbows in the ground and punches that tore Pena’s skin and left her bleeding in the second half of the fight.
