Clay Collard thinks Pettis is getting ‘easy’ fights this season (video)

Clay Collard opens up about the “easy” matchups former opponent Antony Pettis is getting this year’s PFL season.

The 2022 PFL season is in full swing and the next event is just weeks away. PFL 4 will be held live on July 17th at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This event will feature matchups in the lightweight and light heavyweight divisions. Headline will be the map clay cabbage against Alexander Martinez.

Ahead of his main bout, Collard sat down with FanSided’s Amy Kaplan to discuss this season and share his thoughts on some of his potential and past opponents.

“With the tournament setting, I would have much preferred six points instead of three,” explained Collard. “I could win both of my fights and they could both be ‘Fight of the Year’ contenders and I still can’t make it into the tournament because they’re going to get six points more in KO than two deciders six points which I do feel like when you have to take a KO and take a loss I feel like the guy that should keep winning and get the spot but yeah I mean I love a good fight that’s why I’m in this industry because I do like to spank these tough guys. I’m always looking for the toughest guy.”

This time, Collard takes on Martinez, who has also had a win so far this year. Collard thinks he gets the toughest matchups, and he can’t say the same for some of the other fighters in the division.

“I want to take those points, man, I don’t want you to know, they give Anthony Pettis the easiest guy from the start and I think they’re giving them to Jeremy Stephens now,” Collard said. “You give me all the tough guys you know and I’m happy to take it and I want to get a finish. It’s been a while since I’ve locked anyone away and I want to prove I can do it. I want to earn my points and I want to earn my place in the tournament. I think I’m one of the worst guys in the division right now as far as the PFL goes and I don’t want it stolen on points if I think I’m the best fighter.

Collard and company will be looking to come through this event with enough points to advance to the PFL playoffs scheduled for later this year.
