After using a racial slur during a Twitch stream, Yuri Vips has been suspended from Red Bull due to an upcoming investigation. Upon completion of these investigations, his contract with Red Bull as a junior, test and reserve driver was terminated. Despite this, Vips will remain in F2 with Hitech for this season, something that even F2 has made clear that would not have been their decision.
Recently, a clip surfaced of Nelson Piquet using the Portuguese term “neguinho” (translated to the N-word and seen as a racial slur) in reference to last year’s Lewis Hamilton, sparking widespread backlash against the Brazilian in the social media led media. Drivers, celebrities and teams supported the seven-time world champion.
Red Bull released its verdict on Juri Vips on the same day as a number of F1 teams condemned Piquet’s comments, drawing some odd reactions from fans. When asked why Red Bull didn’t issue a statement condemning Piquet, Christian Hoerner said her stance on racism was made clear by the termination of the Vips contract.

Christian Horner: “Actions speak louder than words”
As reported by Motorsport, Christian Horner made it clear that the team was “appalled” by Piquet’s comments and that their action in terminating the Vips contract made their stance on the issue abundantly clear. horns said: “We apparently had an incident involving one of our young drivers late last week and we took very strong action when he made a racist comment.”
Horner added: “We took action and immediately removed him from the team. So we put out a statement about Yuri, and then this one comes out [about Piquet]. We felt that we had sent a very strong signal by actually removing Juri from the team because he didn’t condone racism or discrimination in any way.”
Horner said that her decision made clear her “zero tolerance” policy towards racism or any form of bigotry, and said that she truly supports Lewis Hamilton wholeheartedly: “Obviously we are fully behind Lewis, we fully aligned ourselves with the Hamilton Commission and we felt that actions speak louder than words.”
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, whose partner Kelly is Nelson Piquet’s daughter, also made it clear that he fully supports Lewis Hamilton and the initiative, but said that while Piquet’s comments were offensive, the Brazilian did not be a racist person. Christian Horner reiterated that Max Verstappen fully supports Lewis Hamilton and is against racism or discrimination of any kind.
