Christian Eriksen scores on his return to the Danish national team

Denmark’s Christian Eriksen has made international headlines after suffering a cardiac arrest at EURO 2020. He has returned to international competition in brilliant form.

The EURO 2020 tournament will be remembered for many things, including the thrilling penalty shootout between Italy and England in the final.

However, few images can evoke more emotion than watching the Danish national team shield Christian Eriksen as he is pressed against his chest on the pitch.

The captain suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s group stage match against Finland.

Thankfully, Eriksen was saved and he spent more than half a year preparing for his return to professional play. In February, he made his first appearance for Brentford in the Premier League as a substitute.

Now, once again playing for Denmark on the international stage, he scored his first goal since that dreaded day last summer.

Christian Eriksen scores after two minutes back in international football

Eriksen came on as a substitute for Denmark against the Netherlands and scored the winning goal within two minutes of being on the field. It was his first touch of the game and he placed it perfectly out of the keeper’s reach into the top corner of the goal.

It was a moment of victory for a player who had so many career doubts just a few months ago. Now he is not only playing but scoring for his country again.

After going into cardiac arrest at EURO 2020, Eriksen was implanted with a defibrillator to prevent a similar panic attack from recurring. Christian Eriksen scores on his return to the Danish national team
