Chris Sale is out for the season after a freak injury

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale can’t take a break in the injury department. After a bicycle accident, he is out for the season.

According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, Sale will be out for a year after falling off his bike on Saturday and breaking his wrist.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan added to this report that Sale underwent surgery Monday for the injury.

It’s been a long road back for the seven-time All-Star, who last pitched more than 100 innings in 2019. Tommy John’s surgeries and more have limited his time in the bigs, and he’s always seemingly preparing for a rehab run.

A very brief major league experience in 2022 (just two games) was limited to just 5.2 innings and an ERA of just over three.

What should the Red Sox do without Chris Sale?

Such a pity as sale Injury is that the left-handed ace is on the mend, something the Sox are primed for having been dealt this hand many times before.

Boston’s trading schedules didn’t indicate they were a seller, and perhaps Chaim Bloom genuinely believes this team can contend for an American League wild card spot. As of this writing, they are just 4.5 games from bottom, behind the White Sox, Guardians and Orioles, all of whom are chasing the third-placed Seattle Mariners.

At this point it makes sense to stop selling for the season. A return would be exceedingly unlikely even if Boston were in the midst of a pennant hunt. Hopefully he’s ready for spring training, unlike in previous years.
