A little too close for comfort? A week after Will Smith struck Chris Rock At the 94th Annual Academy Awards, he poked fun at the incident during a stand-up performance.
“Chris broke the ice by sarcastically saying he’s had an interesting week,” says an eyewitness exclusively Us weekly about the 57-year-old comedian’s performance at the Borgata Event Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, April 2nd. “Everyone laughed because of course they knew what he meant.”
While Rock wasn’t interested in discussing the March 27 encounter at length, he did note that he was “still processing” it and planned to address it further later. the Adults The actor continued his planned comedy routine with a subtle reference to Atlantic City’s geographic location.
“He made a joke about Atlantic City being too close to Philly for him to commit to,” the insider said, referring to the 53-year-old Fresh Prince of Bel Air Alum’s hometown. “The general sentiment of the comment was that Atlantic City could be hostile territory because it’s so close to Philly. It was said in casual jest and everyone laughed.”

While Rock declined to file a police report after the event, he later told a crowd in Boston, Massachusetts that he was “still processing” what happened.
“You guys are all giving me foggy eyes and shit,” gushed Rock to applause from the crowd during his comedy show on Wednesday, March 30.

“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions were no indication of the man I want to be. In a world of love and kindness there is no place for violence,” Smith wrote, in part via Instagram. “I also want to apologize to The Academy, the producers of the show, all contestants and all viewers around the world.”
Rock has yet to publicly address Smith’s testimony, but didn’t let it distract from his comedy set.
“Chris didn’t look tired. He was in an energetic mood even though it was his second show that night and he was so late,” notes the insider. “Later, Chris said the words ‘Open Love’ and someone in the crowd shouted ‘The Smiths!’ Chris avoided that and the crowd laughed.”
