Suns guard Chris Paul tweeted furiously at Mavericks fans laying hands on his mother and wife and urged the NBA not to do anything about it.
Mother’s Day should be a celebration. It was anything but for Chris Paul and his family, who attended the Suns’ playoff game against the Mavericks on Sunday.
After Phoenix fell 111-101, Paul took to Twitter to reveal that Mavericks fans had abused his mother and wife during the game.
“I want to punish players for saying stuff to fans but fans can touch our families…fuck it!!” Paul tweeted.
Mavericks fans reportedly laid hands on Chris Paul’s mother and wife
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported: “Paul’s mother was grabbed by Dallas fans and Paul’s wife was also pushed.
Paul’s children were present and witnessed the whole thing and felt “unsafe” during the exchange.
During the game, the camera caught Paul looking heated. Speaking to an apparent police officer, the warden appeared to say, “He put his hands on my mother, he put his hands on my mother.”
The Mavericks released a statement acknowledging the incident and the removal of the fan in question.
“The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident between a fan and Chris Paul’s family. It was unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. The Mavericks, along with the American Airlines Center, quickly removed the fan from today’s game.” it said in the statement.
Dallas could take further action against the fan but that will have to be decided later. Right now, it’s a shame that an NBA playoff game was marred by such unacceptable fan behavior. Whether a fan is interacting with another fan or a player’s mother, there is no place for physical altercations at a sporting event.
