At this point, if you’re surprised a manager goes to his arsenal early in a knockout, that’s on you. And if you’re worried about the sanctity of a missed chance in the playoffs, you’re worrying about going wrong.

Manager of Atlanta Brian Snitker done right on Friday night, pull Ian Anderson after five unsuccessful innings with a lead. Anderson, up until that point, had hit 39 shots and 37 balls. He went three and hit one. He doesn’t deal exactly as much as the Astros suck. In a close game, with the horses that Snitker had in his stall, this was a pretty benign strategy and it worked. Ken Rosenthal made a good point about unnecessary taxation of bullpen, but the four Atlanta runners took part in one round, throwing 11 to 17 throws. It was an orderly procession of painkillers, just as they painted it.

I like Houston in this game, probably thinking about the first game of the World Series at Wrigley Field in 2016. All the predictions and then came true. But the Braves, just 42-38 at home in the regular season but 5-0 in the post-season, held on and won a classic playoff game by a low margin. The kind that baseball fans really love. (Okay, true baseball fans will prefer two hits from the Astros.)

But if you’re a beginner into pitching, don’t expect long outings from Saturday starters either. Again, as Hawk Harrelson once said, this will be a battle of the arsenals. Just like it will be at the end of October.
