A third family member has been convicted in the death of the 5-year-old boy in their care.

Chasity Wodzinski31 years old, is facing 15 years in prison after the jury in West Virginia found she had committed the murder of a child by a parent, guardian, or guardian as a result of child abuse, according to Office of the Attorney General for the County of Harrison.

Those allegations stem from the death of her nephew, Keaton Boggs. Wodzinski, her ex-husband Peter “PJ” Wodzinskiand her mother, Michelle Boggs, is sharing custody of the child. The boy died hours after being hospitalized with severe head injuries in March 2020, according to prosecutors.

Three people were given custody of the boy after his father – Wodzinski’s brother and Boggs’ son – died in 2019.

According to prisoner records, all three have now been found guilty of the same crime. PJ Wodzinski will eligible for parole on March 18, 2035, while Boggs’ first pardon hearing is scheduled for March 20, 2035.

During the trial, medical professionals expressed the shock and disbelief they felt when they saw the extent of Keaton’s injuries when he arrived at the hospital.

“He was one of the worst – sickest – patients I’ve ever cared for,” Dr. Casey McCluskey on the first day of the trial, according to West Virginia News.

According to prosecutors, Dr. McCluskey worked at Ruby Memorial Hospital, where Keaton was taken to the plane after arriving at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center.

She also countered Wodzinski’s claims to law enforcement that Keaton injured himself, West Virginia News reported.

“There were two black eyes and other bruises all over Keaton’s face, as well as more bruises on his torso, back, hips and legs,” the report said. The victim also had cuts to his leg, a blood clot in his eye and a long laceration in his genitals.

Prosecutors told the jury that the injuries came primarily from the boy’s grandmother, but they also said Wodzinski never tried to get the boy to help or stop her mother.

Wodzinski’s lawyer James Hawkins Jr. tell Law & Crime that an appeal has been made. He stressed that Wodzinski had no opinion on the abuse but would not elaborate on the incident or the statements made about his client.

However, West Virginia News reported that in a message that was not seen by the jurors, Wodzinski wrote to her mother that if Keaton did not calm down, “his uncle PJ is sick and is about to beat him up. .”

Wodzinski also changed his story with law enforcement when asked about Keaton’s injuries, according to prosecutors.

A relative told Law & Crime they contacted Wodzinski after seeing pictures of the victim covered in bruises at his birthday party a few weeks before his death. Law & Crime did not name the next of kin, saying they feared family members might retaliate.

Wodzinski said the boy had fallen down some stairs, relatives said.

That relative also said they still don’t believe Wodzinski and her ex-husband would let this happen to a child, explaining that the pair appear to be great parents to their three children. .

But one conviction didn’t surprise this family member, who suggested that Boggs had lied in the past about medical issues and other things.

“Michelle has always been a habitual liar,” said one family member. “Michelle is an attention seeker and will do anything to get noticed. She lied about her medical problems to get attention.”

Michelle Boggs (left WVDOC) and Peter Wodzinski (left WVDOC) are currently serving prison sentences after being convicted for their roles in Keaton’s death.

Tragedy is particularly bittersweet for Keaton’s mother, who told Law & Crime she hoped to be reunited with her son after battling her own demon.

Jessika Bishop-Holt does not have the right to visit her son due to a past battle with drugs. She has lived a chaste life for more than a year and hopes to be reunited with the youngest of her five children when she learns Keaton has passed away.

her mother, Patty HoltBoggs said he tried to prevent that reunion.

“You know Michelle Boggs you told me my daughter would never marry her son so I guess you were right,” Holt wrote in one. Facebook Parcel. “God says we have to forgive and I know it’s the right thing to do but I will continue to pray for God to help me because I have forgiven everything in my past but this is really hard. Please help me.”

In that same post, she also said: “My heart is numb and I pray so much that my daughter won’t be able to give him the big hug she has so longed to give.”

In another now-deleted post, Patty shared a photo of Keaton taken just weeks before his death at the boy’s 5th birthday party.

The child was covered in bruises, and Patty wrote: “I just want everyone who has been this kid’s birthday party to get on their knees and ask you to [sic] May God forgive you for your silence when you see a bruised child like this.”

Holt later noted how the boy still had a smile “through [sic] all those bruises.”
