Castano trains hard for Charlo rematch, waiting for official word

WBO superweight world champion Brian Carlos Castano is training hard for his planned unified rematch with IBF, WBA, WBC champion Jermell Charlo.

The two champions battled for a very competitive twelfth round draw, during a Showtime televised main event on July 17 of this year in San Antonio, Texas.

Their rematch will take place on February 26 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

“So far I don’t have [information] in particular and without text. They want to take me there [have the fight] february and I received nothing official, they asked me how to beat February; they tried to test me [on what I would agree to], because they even talk about January. The point is that day was good for me too, because I didn’t do everything they wanted,” Castano told Ringside’s Carlos Irusta.

Castano, who has 17 wins with 2 draws and 12 wins in the gap, has started training in Buenos Aires, after a long break. After his fight against Charlo, Castano decided to travel with his wife, Carolina, to Puerto Rico.

“First time I stayed a week at [advisor] Sebastian [Contursi’s] home and then we went to Puerto Rico for about ten days. When I returned, in mid-August, I took a month off for my father [Carlos] started telling me I had to work out, because Charlo definitely did, but I didn’t even want to go through the door of the gym. I finally started [training in the gym] about two and a half months ago. Until a month ago, I worked a shift [of training] and now, two shifts working at a very good pace and well matched,” said Castano.

“I am fat, I weigh 88,600 kg [around 195-pounds] and that motivated me to go to the gym, to lose weight gradually. My dad told me “Look at your belly” and really, he was right. Now I have to be around 80 kg [around 176-pounds], but I’m working comfortably, not tiring myself out. i’m going down [in weight] gradually and without problems. “
