Carson Wentz hit new lows with Commanders in training camp

There weren’t exactly high hopes for Carson Wentz as he joins the Washington Commanders this season, but he doesn’t even manage to break that low bar.
It was a nearly unanimous sentiment whenever Carson Wentz was traded to the Washington commanders that it would not be a beneficial move for the franchise. Wentz struggled quite a bit during the 2021 season at Indianapolis, especially on track, and has been in a steady decline for several years.
Suffice to say, optimism about what another change of scenery would do for Wentz wasn’t exactly ebullient.
But even then, it’s wild to see how horribly things are going for the former top two pick in Washington.
Carson Wentz struggles with even the simplest exercises at Commanders Camp
According to a report from Tuesday’s Commanders Camp, Wentz struggles to make even the simplest shots in practice, sailing balls and missing receivers in what is known as an NFL version of a layup line.
Considering that Wentz’s accuracy, while not ideal, wasn’t the biggest issue with his performance on the field with the Colts makes this situation even more troubling for commanders.
As of now, Washington is looking at a quarterback who made questionable decisions, who has dealt with many injuries and who now could not hit water if he threw a football out of a boat. Talk about a not great quarterback situation.
What’s fascinating is that there are also reports from DC that rookie Sam Howell has been looking great from round five in training camp so far. If Wentz is struggling, do the commanders just cut their losses and see what the newcomer has?
As things play out, this might be the least painful option for Washington.
