Carlos Sainz has claimed that the 2022 championship is still within the reach of the Ferrari Formula 1 team and asked everyone in the team not to give up.
However, the Spaniard has admitted the Maranello-based team will need some DNFs from Red Bull to close the points deficit between them.
Questions have been raised in Hungary regarding the Ferrari pit wall’s odd decision-making and their unnecessary decisions mean that Charles Leclerc is now 80 points behind Max Verstappen.
In addition, Carlos Sainz is still fourth in the table, 22 points behind his teammate Charles Leclerc. All of this now means Ferrari cannot win the title even if Ferrari wins all the remaining races with Sainz and Leclerc and takes fastest lap points and wins the sprint race in Brazil if Verstappen finishes P2 in all those events.
Max Verstappen hasn’t lost many points this season to his mistake and the races where he’s lost points were due to mechanical problems on his car.

Carlos Sainz wants Red Bull to come up with some DNFs in the remaining races of the season
Ferrari faces a massive challenge after the summer break and Sainz, aware of the situation, said: “I think it’s clear for Ferrari what we have to do, which is to win the races that Max wants to win.”
“Because those 25 points obviously make a pretty big difference in point swing.”
“I think a lot can still happen up there at the top.”
“I think there is always a great fight between the two teams that will last until the end of the year.”
“It’s true that we might need a little help from Red Bull at some point in terms of reliability or DNFs, but even without those, statistically when it’s open it’s open and you can’t give up.”
Unwilling to give up in the face of the dire situation, the 27-year-old has vowed to fight tooth and nail until the final race of the 2022 F1 season. Sainz said while lingering further: “I think this is the most important rule in sport until it’s impossible. You have to keep believing and try to win everything you can and try to hold your ground in battle.”
“Until a statistic is out of your power… until then we will keep trying, keep developing as a team, keep improving, because what we can learn this year can be useful for years to come.”
Ferrari have a huge deficit after 13 rounds in both championships and with only 9 races left in the 2022 season, the team as a whole needs to kick their socks off and just grind to the finish without worrying the results.
Can Ferrari challenge Red Bull and Max Verstappen in the coming races, if so how much ground would they be able to gain over the Milton-Keynes based team by the end of the season?
