After overcoming world title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-4, 10 KOs) in Sunday’s WBC belt knockout, Carlos Adames (21-1, 16 KOs) has now set his sights conquer Jaime Munguia (38-0, 30 KOs), in a winner is all to fight for the WBC world title with Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs).
Adames, who is from the Dominican Republic, wants Munguia as soon as possible, and feels the clash with the Mexican star will be a huge fight, one that fans would love to see.
“I’m here to prove that I’m the best middleweight in the league,” said Adames, who trains in Las Vegas under Ismael Salas. “I am very grateful to the WBC for making my match against Derevyanchenko a title elimination match. Now that I’ve won, I’m one step closer to my dream of becoming world champion and I want to fight Jaime Munguia next. Munguia has the same fan-friendly style as me, and I know this is a fight fans will want to see.”
Ahead of this weekend’s fight, Munguia mentioned the possibility of going after winner Derevyancenko-Adames in 2022.
Adames has two fights under the tutelage of Ismael Salas, his new coach, and feels all parts are ready for him to win the world title.
“Since moving to Las Vegas to coach under Ismael Salas, I have been able to get my career back on track,” continued Adames. “I feel like I have a great team and am ready to challenge the biggest names in the sport. Jaime Munguia is the fight I want now!
“I want to thank PBC and Showtime for giving me the chance to fight on their platforms. Charlo is another name on my hit list, I come for it all.”
