Cardinals fans are grateful they got to see the return to St. Louis
New York Yankees hitter Matt Carpenter was on fire but is out for at least a month after breaking his left foot.
New York Yankees Hitter Matt Carpenter has been unstoppable this season, posting .305/.412/.727 for a 1.139 OPS. This was one of the best seasons of his career, but it sadly faltered after Carpenter broke his left foot.
While Carpenter wasn’t injured in St. Louis, Cardinals fans are happy to see his return to Busch Stadium despite his recent misfortune. Corresponding ESPN’s Marly Rivera“Carpenter received a long standing ovation before his first at-bat and won the series in St. Louis, 2-for-12.”
Carpenter hasn’t done well in his last three seasons in St. Louis, so this big comeback season has been an exciting (and unexpected) one.
Yankees: Matt Carpenter’s comeback was exciting for fans
Carpenter was on a downward spiral from 2019 to 2021. He consistently underperformed every season, finishing 2021 at .169/.305/.275 with a .580 OPS. Though his final seasons at St. Louis weren’t exactly great, fans are still happy to see him do well at another organization.
The veteran remains hopeful that he can continue his success later this season, whether it’s in September or in the playoffs.
He told ESPN“I don’t want to give a number because I just don’t know, but I’m hoping there’s a situation where I can come back and contribute to a distance run in mid-September. We will see. I mean, that’s my attitude, I’m coming back.”
Hopefully good news is just around the corner for Carpenter, who has defied the odds time and time again.
