In this cardinals Fans must be wondering what would have happened if their offer for the Nationals star had gone through.

General manager John Mozeliak confirmed this on Tuesday, telling reporters that negotiations continued until Monday evening. They were unwilling to comply with Washington’s demands.
“They saw what they got for it, it was better than what we were willing to do,” said Mozeliak via The Athletic’s Katie Woo.
There was speculation that the Nationals wanted to include outfielder fielder Dylan Carlson in the deal. That may be the case, but Mozeliak wanted to make it clear that no single player was at the root of why things fell apart.
“[Carlson]was by no means the reason we didn’t make that deal.” said Mozeliak.
The GM spoke to Carlson while the team was in Washington over the weekend and told him he would not be traded.
We won’t get any details on exactly what the Cardinals had on the table or what it would have taken for them to come out victorious on deadline day.
