Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty reacts MLB threatens to cancel game

MLB-time tensions remain a bit high but Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty has issued a strong response to the latest threats from the owner.

Frustration is running high in the middle of lockdown MLB owners and players union continued.

Fox on MLB tweeted out some reporting from Evan Drellich of The Athletic note the consequences if a new collective bargaining agreement is not signed by the MLB owner and the players union.

An MLB spokesperson told Drellich that regular games for the 2022 season will be canceled and will not be rescheduled and player payments will not be refunded.

Cardinals: Jack Flaherty responds to game cancellation threat

The Cardinals of St. Louis ace Jack Flaherty do not appreciate the implied threat from the owner.

Flaherty expressed disappointment when many people shared with the players union. The owners locked them up and didn’t see them for a month after the lock was established.

After very few sessions of negotiation, the owner threatened to cancel the game if no agreement was reached by Monday, February 28.

Flaherty expressed her frustration in a slightly dry, but exacting way.

He says it’s not fair for owners to threaten such profound consequences after their efforts to resolve the issue were rather ineffective. In at least two cases, the owner wants to refer the matter to federal mediators while the players union wants to speak directly with the owner to reach a resolution. The two sides only met for less than an hour a day this week.

Winter is turning to spring. It’s warming up in Florida and Arizona. The players want to start working and get ready for the 2022 season. The fans are ready too. After a long winter in anticipation of whether or not we’ll have baseball, it’s terrible to see either side not resolving the issue sooner.

But Flaherty is correct. The impending deadline set by the owner is unfair to the players or the fans. It is not right for the owners to impose such a short deadline – 5 days left – after they put in so little effort and essentially punished the players and fans by taking away the game. Not having to reschedule those games and then take money from players.

It will be interesting to see what players and owners do over the next few days. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and we’ll have baseball soon. Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty reacts MLB threatens to cancel game
